Maryland ENERGY CODE
Current State Energy Code: 2021 MBPS
Model Code: 2021 IECC
Previous State Energy Code: 2018 MBPS
Previous Model Code: 2018 IECC
The 2021 Maryland Building Performance Standards (MBPS) is based on the 2021 IECC. This edition of the MBPS went into effect in May 2024. The previous version of Maryland's energy code was based on the 2018 IECC.
Maryland's energy code is a combination of the IECC's provisions plus some specific state amendments (Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) Title 09, Subtitle 12, Chapter 51.04(D)). The inclusion of these amendments makes the code less stringent than its model code, deeming it equivalent to the 2018 IECC per to the DOE.
