BER conducts the majority of its business in a virtual setting. Therefore, our employees enjoy the ability to work from the comfort of their home office. However, some travel may be required. Our Field Quality Assurance team members travel throughout the US performing field QA.

HERSPro Manager
BER is a national provider of technical, educational and Quality Assurance services for Home Energy Raters (HERS), ENERGY STAR Single Family and Multifamily Homes, LEED for Homes , and building performance professionals throughout the United States.
BER (pronounced "Bear") believes in the value of energy efficient buildings and is dedicated to providing industry-leading technical and customer support to our clients. Our HERSPro department oversees the quality assurance oversight and technical support for our affiliated rater members. We are currently seeking a HERSPro Manager to lead our efforts in this capacity.
- Day-to-day management of the HERSPro team by ensuring production quality and consistent practices, providing daily oversight with measurable controls
- Oversee team delivery of quality assurance review of energy ratings & programs, per RESNET and applicable program standards, including file and field QAs and, where necessary, perform QA activities to support company needs.
- Perform timely and consistent review of work produced by BER QADs and energy modeling staff to ensure expected quality of work product, providing guidance, training and corrective action when needed
- Ensure maintenance of records for internal use and as necessary for reporting to RESNET or other governing bodies where required.
- Reviewing, coordinating and submitting timely responses to RESNET or other relevant energy efficiency programs Public Draft Comments and addendums
- Reviewing and translating RESNET communications to team to ensure BER staff is fully knowledgeable of industry standards
- Perform field and file mentoring of training/provisional HERS Raters, RFIs, and Modelers
- Provide sales and technical support to BER clients via phone, email & BER’s client portal as needed
- Assist with creation of company policies, processes, standards, and training programs as it relates to Quality Assurance, updating and maintaining the BER Knowledgebase, relevant team file storage, etc.
- Represent BER at conferences, tradeshows, and local industry related events
- Any additional support functions related to the management and maintenance of the above
- Assist in the review and development/refinement of training efforts associated with code compliance, HERS, ZERH and other industry programs.
- Travel will be required for the performance of the above duties
- 5+ years management experience in a relevant field (ex. Building performance, energy efficiency)
- Certified HERS Rater, 2+ years experience conducting HERS Ratings preferred
- Certified QAD preferred
- Ability to work from home in a productive way, working effectively and efficiently
- High degree of computer literacy, including fluency in Ekotrope, REM/Rate, MS Windows, Office, etc.
- Strong knowledge of building science, HVAC, construction, energy efficiency programs and industry standards

Design Sales Associate
BER is seeking an experienced sales associate within the home energy rating industry to serve as a Design Sales Associate. This individual will support all departments within BER. This is a nationwide position with the ability to work from a home office.
- This position involves high volume of incoming, email and telephone sales outreach, offering and explaining BER’s service to potential new clients across the US and Canada.
- This position will be responsible for lead generation efforts, including the gathering of potential client information, geographic location, and contact information to generate leads for sales calls and email marketing efforts.
- Developing relationships with potential customers: This involves identifying and reaching out to potential customers and building relationships with them to offer BER’s services. You'll need to listen to their needs, attain their HVAC or energy modeling requirements and information, and provide them with relevant solutions.
- Gathering information for conducting quotes: Before providing a quote for Energy Modeling or HVAC system design, you will need to collect the proper information for assessment of the customer's needs and the unique requirements of their projects. This will involve asking questions to better understand the customer's needs and the ability to pass that information in detail to the design team.
- Providing quotes: Once our team has assessed the customer's needs, you'll assist in to providing the potential new client with a quote that outlines the cost of the system design, energy modeling services, or other services and all the information and/or fees.
- Closing deals: To be successful as a Design Sales Associate, you need to be skilled in closing deals. This involves overcoming objections, negotiating price, and addressing any concerns the customer may have to result in new business.
- Following up with customers: After the sale is complete, it's important to follow up with every customer to ensure they are satisfied with their purchased service and to address any issues or obtain any feedback that may arise in order to maintain the highest level of customer service in the industry.
- Outgoing, energetic and a self-starter is a must!
- Ability to work from home in a productive way, working effectively and efficiently.
- Some prior sales experience preferred.
- Telemarketing and interpersonal sales preferred.
- Some knowledge or the ability to quickly understand concepts of basic homebuilding jargon, HVAC systems and supporting services.

Commercial Modeler
BER is seeking an experienced professional within the commercial and multifamily energy efficiency industry to serve as a commercial programs specialist. This individual will primarily support our energy modeling (ProServ) and Green Building programs (GreenBuild) divisions by performing programmatic reviews for the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction and LEED programs. Additionally, this individual would ideally be able to support our commercial HVAC design & energy modeling services. This is a nationwide position with the ability to work from a home office.
- Performing professional services for BER clients, including commercial energy models, commercial HVAC design calculations, residential energy modeling, and residential HVAC design services
- Support for BER’s ENERGY STAR Multifamily Review Organization activities, including:
- Quality Assurance Review of ASHRAE building models, associated Performance Path Calculators, Proposed Design and As-Built Documentation
- Completion of Quality Assurance documentation as required for ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction certification
- Assistance with development of training curriculum focused on commercial energy efficiency program and code programs, energy modeling, etc.
- Technical support for BER GreenBuild program services, including Enterprise Green Communities and LEED for Homes services.
- Management and maintenance of BER & BER client project database and file server related to QA activity performed.
- Experience with green building and energy efficiency programs such as ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction, ASHRAE 90.1, LEED for Homes / BD&C, PHIUS (passive house), etc.
- Commercial energy auditing and energy modeling experience using eQuest, COMcheck, OpenStudio, Trane Trace, DesignBuilder, IES, WUFI, etc
- High degree of computer literacy, including fluency in MS Windows, Office, etc.
- Knowledge and experience in working with and performing takeoffs using architectural and engineering plans, details and specifications
- Strong knowledge of building science, HVAC, construction, energy efficiency programs and industry standards

BER Quality Assurance Designee & Candidate Field Assessor
BER is seeking an experienced professional within the RESNET home energy rating system (HERS) industry to serve as a Quality Assurance Designee (QAD) and Candidate Field Assessor. This individual shall support our quality assurance process and shall serve as a technical representative to our clients.
Given that BER is a national company which conducts the majority of business virtually, our employees enjoy the ability to work from the comfort of their home office. However, travel will be required for the quality assurance and training field work components if this position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
- Quality assurance review of energy ratings & programs, per RESNET & applicable program standards, including ongoing 10% rating data file and 1% rating field & virtual review,
- Performing professional services on behalf of BER clients, including energy ratings, HVAC design, etc.
- Perform field and file mentoring of training/provisional HERS Raters, RFIs, and Modelers,
- Management, scheduling and reporting of all quality assurance & field mentoring activities,
- Provide technical support to BER clients via phone, email & BER’s client portal,
- Performing all the essential tasks of a certified HERS Rater, including field inspections and testing, as well as energy modeling for home energy ratings,
- Represent BER at conferences, tradeshows and local industry related events,
